About Melanie
Melanie Macro MSt (Oxon), BA, MBACP.
Psychodynamic therapist specialising in counselling adults and children aged 11+
Following a successful 20-year career as a professional singer and then singing teacher, I attended the rigorous 4 year psychotherapy training at Oxford University, where I graduated with distinction with a Masters degree in Psychodynamic Practice. I am now a guest lecturer on the Oxford University psychotherapy diploma course.
In addition to my counselling practice in Hungerford; I am currently a main therapist at the Clinic for Dissociative Studies, a national centre of specialist expertise in trauma and dissociative disorders; and school counsellor at Wallingford School.
A Bit About Therapy
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, both long-term and short-term.
The psychodynamic approach explores past experiences and the underlying causes of difficulties to help to bring about meaningful change. What happens in our early years and those developmental relationships can become a template that we may take into other relationships or aspects of our lives. Recognising these patterns and understanding why they developed makes us better able to choose a path we want.
Through this process, we may see some shifts in our behaviours, develop new perspectives on our past and present, increase our sense of autonomy and find new and healthier ways of relating to others.
How I work
I work relationally, aiming to provide a warm and secure environment where we can work together to understand and work through any issues you may be having. You are unique, I will work with you to find how we work best together.
Working with young people
I may adapt my technique when working with young people, using creative tools and media. I aim to make sessions welcoming and 'not weird'!
If you're unsure what to expect, please ask me any questions you need to. You can also find some useful information here:
